Tom Sivak, RPT, has been tuning pianos since 1980, when he took a course in Piano Technology from Moody Bible Institute under the tutelage of Bob Carbaugh. A member of the Piano Technician's Guild, Tom attained "Registered Piano Technician" status by passing a rigorous battery of tests which cover tuning, repair, and regulation skills. (The exams take over 10 hours to complete.) In addition to demonstrating their proficiency by passing the exams, an RPT is sworn to uphold the PTG's Standards of Ethics.

 

In addition to piano tuning, repair, and regulation, Tom is an accomplished professional pianist (M.M. NIU, 1979) , and when Tom finishes the tuning with a little "Mini-Concert" of classical and popular favorites, nearly everyone without exception proclaims, "My piano has never sounded so good!". Beyond the entertainment value, this is Tom's way of evaluating the piano and its action. By playing technically difficult pieces, pushing the piano to its limits, Tom can analyze exactly what needs to be done to make the piano play even better.
